The west coast Thanksgiving trip is always a highlight of the Kingdoms year. But it's a bit of a shock when we return to our otherwise calm, suburban street to find it swathed with twinkling lights, snowmen, reindeer, wreaths, inflatables, and any other x-mas lawn ornaments one could imagine. It's like the universe is telling the Kingdom to get their butts in gear...Christmas is a comin'.
Appropriate teacher gifts can easily become the thorn in your holiday side. Fear not my subjects, the Countess has nailed this one and is happy to share. Surprisingly it begins with something as hideous as this........

Put it in pot like this......

Write up a cute, little care instruction card (care BTW is minimal), and within a month or two said teacher will be rewarded with this.....

Word has gotten out about the Countess' annual gift of an amaryllis bulb. Last year the Counts' teacher had obviously been given the heads up by past recipients and when the Countess approached, teacher smiled, looked inside the bag, and shrieked with glee. That my subjects is the universal sign for YOUR GIFT IS SO MUCH BETTER THAN A COFFEE MUG. It's also kinda great when in the middle of winter teacher gushes over how beautifully her plant is blooming. Ours is an amaryllis loving Kingdom and we've grown them for years, so the real fun is giving one to someone who has no experience with them, they are really tickled when this ugly whatever-it-is starts blooming around February.
The Kingdoms trusted source for amaryllis bulbs is Brent and Becky's Bulbs. The Kingdom orders about 20 bulbs. For pots, we visit the Dee's 4th of July Sale every year (or dispatch a friend if the Kingdom is travelling) and get them dirt cheap. You also need a bag of potting soil and a bag of moss to cover the dirt.
My subjects, go forth and plant!
