The Countess Says, "Don't Play Dumb for Jesus!"

The Tri-Captains of Team Science Sucks

My subjects, I think I’ve got some ‘splaining to do in regard to the previous post.  Despite suspicions to the contrary, I was not on painkillers when I wrote it.

The post was a reaction to that increasingly frequent and maddening political trend of disavowing science as part of your selection onto Team Jesus.  Anyone watching the Republican debates knows of what I speak.  Anyone not watching the debates, shame on you, one of these clowns (yes, some of them are CLOWNS) could very well be our next President.  Unfortunately, several of them have taken the concept of “proudly ignorant” to a whole new level.

Proud ignorance is nothing knew, a fringe of the Christian Conservative movement has been playing this game for years.  Remember AIDS being a punishment from God?  But this year there is a level of pride that I, as a Christian who racked up a hefty number of science credits in college, finds truly embarrassing.  I run the Sunday School at our church.  My kids take Communion every Sunday.  The Count is on the Board of our Church.  The Contessa was Mary in the Christmas pageant for Pete's sake!!  So I feel confident in stating the following DON'T PLAY DUMB FOR JESUS.

Michele Bachmann, Rick Santorum PLEASE stop pretending that your proud ignorance is somehow of service to our Lord and Savior.  Herman Cain, you can’t “catch” cancer.  And Mitt Romney your stance on birth control simply defies logic!!!

Ignorance helps no one, it simply welcomes greater, and more dangerous levels of ignorance down the road.

Oh, Countess, thanks for speaking up on this subject. I am so embarrassed by the Republican candidates.
Everything in my Christian, Republican, Sunday school teacher, I-have-a-science-degree body is offended by the rants and raves of those who have taken it upon themselves to declare "the truth". I am firmly on Team Jesus and I have NO PROBLEM reconciling my faith and science. Just the opposite.
If you believe in souls and the afterlife, conservation of mass and energy supports your belief. God created the earth in six God-days. Genesis' recounting looks a lot like the Biblical version of evolution. I'm just saying....
God already sent his representative to Earth. Could you really see Jesus sitting down for a meal with these folks? I think that there would be some serious temple-cleaning up going on.
